How to speed up your computer?
There are many ways to make your computer work faster, but I am giving some solutions which were tested by me and found really useful.
But I'd never recommend you to download any other programs offered by fraudulent sites, check those sites credibility using Mc Afee site Advisor,click here to get free version

But before doing anything please backup your system:
Start > All programs > Accessories > System tools >Backup

1. Free up disc space:
Purpose: To improve performance of the computer this tool will help you to free up disc space
Start > All programs > Accessories > System tools > Disc cleanup Disc cleanup for check all
This will clean up the unnecessary files besides compressing old files.
You might need to do this for every drive.

2. Accelerate access to data:
Purpose: Consolidates the fragmented files in discs, so files stored neatly, so system can access data speeds up.
If you have large no of files then run this
Disc defragmentation :
Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Disk Defragmenter >select drive
Analyze (Dialogue box will let you know whether you can defragment the disc or not)> Defragment > View report> close

3. Detect & Repair disc errors:
Purpose: To optimize performance of the computer & to check the integrity of the files stored
Start> My computer (select disc>right click) > properties> Tools> Check now> select Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors> Start > If anything found select Fix

4. Delete unused programs:
Start>Control panel> Add or remove programs (scroll through the programs if you find any unwanted programs then) Remove.
Windows will show you how often you use the program, based on this you can decide whether you can retain it or remove it.

5. Remove startup programs:
Purpose: to avoid unwanted programs to start automatically, which reduces system speed.
Start> Run> type msconfig enter > startup tab > select all unwanted programs n uncheck them >apply

6. Turn off unnecessary services:
Purpose: Generally we don’t use many services which run in back ground, by turning them off we can increase the system speed significantly.
Start> Control panel> Administrative tools> turn off the unwanted services.

7. Turn off indexing:
Purpose: Indexing uses large amount of RAM, leads to slower n noisy system, if you don’t search your quite often then use this option.
Start> Control Panel> Add or remove programs> go to Add or remove windows components (which is generally located on left side column, third) > uncheck indexing services> Next

8. Disconnect network drive:
Purpose: If your computer was connected to other computer thru a network, which is no longer in use then still windows tries to attempt connection, which delays the system performance.
My computer> Tools (on top ribbon) > disconnect network drive (select which are no longer in use)> ok

9. Speed up folder browsing:
Purpose: To increase computer browsing significantly
My computer> Tools(on top ribbon)> Folder options> view > Uncheck Automatically search for network folders and printers> Apply> OK
You may need to restart the computer.

10. Pagefile optimization:
Purpose: follow this If your memory size is more than 512Mb. Windows XP sizes the page file to about 1.5X the amount of actual physical memory by default, it works well when RAM ≤ 512Mb, but it is unnecessary for those systems with more than 512Mb RAM, which lessens the burden on OS.
My computer (right click)> Properties> Advanced> performance> setting> advanced> virtual memory> change > select the drive of page file> make the initial Size of the file the same as the Maximum Size of the file.


11. Remove desktop picture:
Purpose: To improve system performance, desktop picture consumes fair amount of memory, which can increase the loading time of your system.
Right click on Desktop> properties> desktop> select none in the background window.
Same case applies to screen saver,
Right click on Desktop> properties> screen saver> select none in the screen saver window.

12. Remove unnecessary fonts:
Purpose: some fonts use fair amount of system resources, for maximum system performance delete those unnecessary fonts.
Start> Control panel> Fonts> remove the unnecessary fonts especially true type fonts/or move them to a temporary file.

13. Antivirus :
I’d recommend Avast Home version for this, coz it is free and also gives comprehensive protection.

make sure you run this program at least once in a week, it gives real time protection.

14. Use System utilities program:
I’d personally recommend ’Glary utilities’ , which can do a lot of tasks, like program un installing, spyware removal, temp files removal….etc, all with just one click, then you don’t have to perform many of the above mentioned programs periodically.

15. Adware/Malware removal:
Purpose: Adware, malware can bring down the system speeds, so run removal tools regularly, the above mentioned can deter most of the ad, malwares still I recommend special tools for this such as Spyware doctor, Ad-aware personnel or Spy cleaner gold, trial versions are available from www.download.com just down load them n run , remove if any found then delete these tools, or u can use latest Windows defender.

And finally don’t forget to update your system on regular intervals, and consider upgrading RAM.
